The tennis tournament of the 16th University Games of Zhejiang Province in 2022 has come to an end. The tennis team of Wenzhou University worked extremely hard and received two gold, two silver and one bronze. Wenzhou University delegation also won the PE Morality Award.

         On 19 June, the tennis match of the Provincial University Games opened at the College of  Vocational Polytechnic of Zhejiang Province. There are 14 events in Group B and Group C during this  match. Around 30 education providers including past champion teams Hangzhou Normal University and Ningbo University and 265 players took part in the tournament. This event was jointly sponsored by the Provincial Department of Education, Provincial Sports Bureau, and Provincial School Sports Association.

      Our tennis team was led by Jianqiang Ye, Vice President of School of Physical Education and Health and the coach Fenghai Cai. The team members are undergraduate and postgraduate students from the School of Physical Education and Health. In the competition on 21 June, our team won men’s group championship in Group C (team formed by Jie Yao, Zhiwei Liu, Zuquan Huang, Chen Zhang and Chen Li); our Group C women’s team won the third place (team formed by You Meng, Chunxiang Lyu, Youyou Wang, Ting Ruan, and Chenhui Lyu). On 23 June, after intense group knockout match and semi-finals, our teams made their way to the finals in three doubles in Group C and eventually Jie Yao/You Meng won mixed double championship in Group C, Zuquan Huang/Zhiwei Liu won second place in men’s double in Group C, and Youyou Wang/Chunxiang Lyu won second place in women’s double in Group C. And our coach Fenghai Cai won the “Excellent Coach” Award.

         Founded in 2003, our tennis teams have won multiple championships and second prizes in various university tennis competitions in the province over the last 20 years. Having formed a highly disciplined team, our players train hard in winter and summer. They work extremely hard and have been making unremitting efforts to prepare for all kinds of high-level events. During this event, our tennis team has overcome great challenges posed by the pandemic and the uncertainty in the event organization and continued to train hard. Thanks to the great effort from the coach, efficient management, and team coordination, the team enhanced the ideological and political training on the field as well as in the classroom and combined online and offline training, and great results have been achieved by promoting learning through competition as well as building great unity and cooperation in the team.
