Operas from Wenzhou Short Video Contest
Ⅰ.Contest Theme & Mission
The theme of the contest is “Operas from Wenzhou to the World”. Wenzhou is regarded as one of the important origins of Chinese traditional operas. The contest aims to build an open platform, leveraging AI tools to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning for the promotion of Wenzhou's rich opera resources to the world.
Ⅱ.Participants
The contest accepts individual or group participants from all walks of life.
Ⅲ.Participation Guidelines
1.Video Themes
1.Videos should revolve around the theme “Operas from Wenzhou to the World”, focusing on Wenzhou's representative opera genres such as Ouju Opera, Wenzhou Drumbeat Lyrics (guci), Yueju Opera, Yongjia Kunqu Opera, and Puppet Show.
2.The content may cover various aspects of Wenzhou's operas, including the history, artistic features, cultural heritage, cross-cultural dissemination, and aesthetic appreciation. Videos can highlight the unique charm of the opera through specific elements like the stage art (e.g. scts, costumes, props, etc.), performance skills (e.g. singing, acting, etc.), or the repertoire (e.g. scripts, characters, storylines, etc.).
2.Video Specifications
1.All entries should be submitted through the designated email address. A synopsis or script of no less than 500 words is required for each submission.
2.Entries should feature unique perspectives, innovative narratives, and appropriate translations. Bilingual subtitles in both Chinese and one selected foreign language are required in the video. The designated foreign languages include English, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, Spanish, German and Russian.
3.Videos should be 1-3 minutes. Recommended file formats include MPG, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, etc. Both horizontal (16:9, resolution 1280*720 or above) and vertical (9:16, resolution 720*1280 or above) videos are acceptable.
4.Originality: If using others' video clips, participants must obtain written permission from the original creator to avoid copyright infringement.
5.Participants are encouraged to use AI to aid video creation.
6.Participants are encouraged to play a role in the video.
7.No sex, violence, racism, or any other inappropriate elements that may violate relevant laws and regulations are accepted.
3.Submission
1.Participants should provide the following information as required: name of the team or creator, title, theme, synopsis or script, creation time, members of participation, and contact information.
2.Participants shall bear the consequences of incorrect or missing contact details that result in failure to reach them.
3.No participation fee is required. Participants shall bear the expenses in video production.
4.The organizers assume no responsibility for any failure of participation due to delay of submission, or any error, damage, loss of videos, or any other personal reasons of the participants, during video making and uploading.
Ⅳ.Technical Support
1.The contest encourages the use of AI to aid video creation, such as in editing, subtitling, and special effects.
2.The organizers will provide commonly used AI toolkits for video creation, introduction materials of Wenzhou's typical operas, and a bilingual glossary of frequently used terms. A support team consisting of translators, technicians and new media operators will offer online consultation and assistance to the participants.
Ⅴ.Contest Schedule
1.Participants can join in our official Tencent QQ group chat to contact us and fill in the registration form before July 30, 2024.
2.The submission deadline for all entries is September 15, 2024.
3.Preliminary Round (late September, 2024): The top 30 short videos will be selected for the semi-finals.
4.Semi-finals (early October, 2024): The top 20 videos will be shortlisted for the finals.
5.Finals: The shortlisted works will be posted on major platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. The results will be determined by the judges' scores and relevant online platform reports (view counts, etc.).
6.The final results will be announced in early November, 2024.
Ⅵ.Evaluation Criteria
1.Preliminary Round and Semi-finals: A panel of experts will evaluate and score the entries on a 100-point scale and select outstanding works for the finals.
2.Finals: The winners will be selected based on the scores and cumulative online views.
Ⅶ.Awards
Grand Prize (1 winner): RMB 8,000 or prize of equivalent value & a certificate
First Prize (2 winners): RMB 5,000 or prize of equivalent value & a certificate
Second Prize (3 winners): RMB 2,000 or prize of equivalent value & a certificate
Third Prize (5 winners): RMB 800 or prize of equivalent value & a certificate
Excellence Award (9 winners): RMB 200 or prize of equivalent value & a certificate
(All prize amounts are listed pre-tax.)
Ⅷ.Other Matters
Outstanding works will be posted on Wenzhou University's official accounts on social media platforms such as Douyin, Shipinhao, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. The contest will also leverage the Wenzhou Overseas Media Center and other channels to widely publicize the excellent entries.
