WZU Delegation Achieves Excellent Results in International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition
On March 24, 2024, the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition in English (hereinafter referred to as "ICC English Competition") concluded, with the WZU delegation winning the third prize nationwide.
The competition was jointly organized by China University of Political Science and Law and the International Criminal Court, with nearly 70 university teams from across the country participating, including teams from Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Normal University, China University of Political Science and Law, and East China University of Political Science and Law. WZU delegation competed fiercely among strong opponents and stood out, achieving the third prize nationwide along with teams from East China University of Political Science and Law, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
The Wenzhou University delegation was guided by WANG Yizhao from Law School, with external coach CHEN Kaijun providing guidance. The undergraduate students LIN Ruonan (team captain), SHAO Zeyan (vice captain), ZHU Jiuyuan, ZHENG Peiyao, LU Wenjie, YANG Yunhan, YANG Xinyi, ZHU Junwei, WANG Zhongze, XU Ruyi, GAO Yifan, and ZHU Yucan participated as team members. The outstanding performance of the team fully demonstrated the excellent professional abilities and comprehensive qualities of our university students.
ICC English Competition is one of the international law moot court competitions held in the six official languages of the United Nations, promoted by the International Criminal Court. It is also the competition with the largest number of participating teams and the fiercest competition among the six official language competitions. It is a top moot court event in the field of international criminal law and one of the most influential moot court events in the field of international law. The competition aims to enhance students' attention to international situations, deepen their understanding of the basic values of justice, freedom, equality, and security advocated by international law, promote the development of international law research in China, cultivate international legal talents, and enhance international legal exchanges.
Over the years, the university has attached great importance to the cultivation of legal talents with international perspectives and cross-cultural communication abilities. Enhancing the ability to cultivate legal talents with international perspectives is an important content of high-level discipline construction, and the results of talent cultivation and professional construction are significant. The law major of Wenzhou University is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, a first-class undergraduate major construction point in Zhejiang Province, and a characteristic major in Zhejiang Province during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" periods. The excellent performance of the Wenzhou University delegation in the ICC English Competition is the result of the university's recent efforts in cultivating legal talents with international perspectives, bringing honor to the university and injecting confidence and motivation into the further construction of the university's discipline competition teams.
