Simone Calamai, President of Prato Province, Italy, Visits WZU
On March 11th, Simone Calamai, President of Prato Province, Italy, led a delegation to visit our university for discussions and exchanges. President ZHAO Min and Director ZHOU Junwu of the Foreign Affairs Office of Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government attended the meeting. Vice President WANG Shun presided over the event.
ZHAO Min introduced the construction and development of Wenzhou University. He pointed out that Wenzhou University attaches great importance to internationalization and actively conducts exchanges and cooperation with Italy, especially with Prato Province, which has a long history of cultural exchanges and research cooperation. In 2010, Wenzhou University initiated a collaborative research project with Prato Province on "Chinese in Prato." From 2012 to 2020, delegations led by successive presidents of Prato Province visited Wenzhou University. He emphasized that the visit of President Simone Calamai would further enrich and deepen cooperation between the two sides in education, cultural exchange, and other fields.
Simone Calamai highly praised the development of Wenzhou University. He stated that Wenzhou and Prato are sister cities, with more than 50,000 Wenzhou people currently living and working in Prato, making educational cooperation very important. He hoped that Wenzhou University could establish teaching centers in Prato to provide high-quality educational resources for local residents.
Simone Calamai and his delegation also visited the School Museum and the Embroidery Museum to gain a deeper understanding of the university's development history and cultural heritage. During the discussions, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on education, culture, and talent cultivation.
Members of the Italian delegation included Federica Palanghi, Vice President of Prato Province, and Italian-China relations expert Giancarlo Maffei. Representatives from various departments and colleges of Wenzhou University, including the International Relations Office, the School of Foreign Studies, the College of International Education, the Overseas Chinese College, and the Italian Campus, participated in the discussions.
