Virtual and Remote Teaching: Wenzhou University and Kashgar University Joined the Same Class in the Cloud
Actively responding to the call of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education for the construction of virtual teaching and research offices and for the educational resources shared by teachers and students in the western region via MOOC, and vigorously supporting the development of higher education in the central and western regions, on the evening of March 29, Wenzhou University worked with Kashgar University and the Wisdom Tree platform to give a livestreaming class “Nursery Course from an International Perspective - Based on Infants’ Education, International Experience and Practical Exploration”. Thanks to the livestreaming technology provided by Wisdom Tree, students from the two universities gathered in the cloud to take this course.
The course was taught by Professor Song Zhanmei from Wenzhou University.
In the class, Professor Song used real-time panoramic video and remote information exchange tools to encourage students from the two sides to interact with each other across space. Students focused on the connotation, structure, characteristics and essence of the course, and discussed the theme of “what is the childcare curriculum”.
The care service for infants and young children under the age of 3 is an important part of life cycle management. With the support of Wenzhou University, Professor Song Zhanmei has worked with 5 doctors from other four universities, 8 colleagues in early childhood education and 7 nursery groups to produce the course “Nursery Theory and Practice” in MOOC based on their nearly ten years’ of research. The course is open to students and the public in Wisdom Tree website, aiming to improve the infant care in the society.
“As the southernmost university in Xinjiang, Kashgar University hopes to have access to educational resources from high-level institutions like Wenzhou University to improve its teaching and research capabilities”. Professor An Yan, the deputy director of the Academic Affairs Department of Kashgar University, said in the session. This event effectively helped Kashgar University improve the quality of classroom teaching and learning. We also look forward to more cooperation and exchanges between the two universities. Professor Luo Jianli, head of the academic affairs of Wenzhou University, said that Wenzhou University would actively promote curriculum construction and support the educational resources to be shared by teachers and students in the western region via MOOC, help boost the higher education in the central and western regions, and help teachers there build high-quality courses with regional and national characteristics. Associate Professor Liu Jian, the head of discipline development, School of Educational Sciences, Kashgar University, and Professor He Yi from College of Teacher Education, Wenzhou University, respectively introduced the development of their colleges. It is hoped that the teachers and students from the two sides will have more academic exchanges to enhance the industry-university-research cooperation.
