WZU Students and Teachers Celebrated the World Water Day Through Series Activities
Recently, the College of Life and Environmental Science of WZU, the Ecological Environment and Water Conservancy Bureau of Wenzhou Ecological Park Management Committee and the Wenzhou University Sanyang Wetland Ecology and Environment Research Institute jointly launched a series of activities on the World Water Day with the theme of “implementing the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress and jointly guarding the ecological green of wetlands” at Sanyang Wetland to firmly establish and practice the concept of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, which effectively enhanced people’s awareness of loving and protecting water, and help build Wenzhou into an international wetland city.
With the motif of “water conservation and recycling for all”, the beautiful posters fabricated by WZU students and teachers attracted many people passing by. At the event, children gazed in awe at the device that turned turbid water into clear water. “This small water purification device has four layers. The top two layers are mainly to filter the larger impurities while the bottom two layers are mainly to adsorb the fine floating ash. This is only a simple water purification device. To make the water drinkable, we have to filter it with other devices,” explained the volunteers to the children.
In the oil-paper umbrellas drawing zone, people were painting lucid waters and lush mountains with brushes. “Mum, let’s paint this spot yellow”, exclaimed a kid. On the other side, postgraduate students in water-related majors were sampling the water in the wetland through instruments and equipment. Holding beakers of the source of life, they were educating the public on water quality standards.
The knowledge quiz brought the event to its climax as it stirred up a fiery atmosphere. Through the question and answer, the public learned about environmental protection and ecological construction mentioned in the report of the Party’s 20th National Congress and enhanced their awareness of protecting water resources and drinking water supply.
“This event is really meaningful. I have learned about World Water Day systematically through the introduction of volunteers. I am fully aware of the importance of water resources and have deeply comprehended the concept of ecological civilization espoused by the Party’s 20th National Congress”, said a member of the public who signed the initiative letter.
It is reported that the College of Life and Environmental Science of WZU has the water management platform of “National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Ecological Management Technology of Urban Water Pollution”. Its scientific research, featuring ecological restoration of the water environment, takes regional environmental problems as the starting point and national application as the goal, and has become outstanding and competitive in such water ecology research as the decentralized domestic sewage ecological treatment technology, water eutrophication and cyanobacterial water bloom mechanism and control technology. Some of its scientific research results are even on the front-edge worldwide.
